Hi How many of you out there own Tokay Gekos can you actually handle them without being bitten? will they eventually calm down? do they deserve their reputation? Is it really a Geko to just look at or can they make good handlable pets? Thanks Chadders*1531

I don't think the tokay gecko is available in Australia - to my knowledge they're an exotic. and a beautiful one at that!

You have a 50/50 chance of being able to tame a tokay, most of the males will stay aggresive. The females is where you will have a better chance of taming. When I first got my male tokay I had to wear gloves. He bit the glove and wouldn't let go. So I took the glove off with him attached and placed him in his enclosure. He held his grip on the glove for 20 minutes. I have finally got him sorta tame, he will still bite me every now and then. It took me a total of 5 months to get that far though. I am not trying to stear you away from them, because they are amagzing geckos, and beatifully colored. I am just saying to get a female if you can, because they seem to tame better than the males.

Its my humble opinion that geckos in general are a look dont handle lizard. As with any herp, some are ok with it, others are not.

I agree with you 100% on that Inny. The only times I really handle my tokay are when I clean its cage.
