Forgot to answer you question about cage cleaning Inny, when cleaning out the spider enclosures, I usually get a takeaway container ( usually an ex-cricket container) and I put in a serviette that is slightly damp. I than use a paintbrush and find the spider in the tub - usually it shoots up the paintbrush - sometimes it stays on there, sometimes it crawls up your arm and sometimes it trys to jump off - kamikaze style. I usually clean the tanks out on the floor, a drop for a spider can be quite fatal to it - they're actually really fragile! Once the spider is in the takeaway container with the lid on top. I take out a bit of a tunnel and the film cannister from the old enclosure and keep these for the clean enclosure (the familar smell of things from their old enclosures helps to settle them in), take the fake plants out and than throw the rest away. - I usually take my time doing that as I like to check out all there old tunnels! After cleaning the enclosure I dampen some peat moss and put in the tank - the edges have to be gently packed down - otherwise as the peat dries out a little it comes away from the sides (and crickets love to hide in there). Put the plant back in, the film cannister and the tunnel part. - I than mist a little with spray bottle and than put the spider back into his now clean enclosure. i usually don't feed the spider untill he's setup a few tunnels etc, than I know he's happy and ready for a feed.

Anyhow got some pics today. My big fella, was obviously hungry today, so he sat out where I could see him waiting for food. - I'd drop a cricket in and instead of taking it down into one of his chambers - he grabbed and killed it in front of me! Than he kinda just pushed the dead cricket down the tunnel with his back feet and waited for another 1! Super cool! Its really amazing watching how fast they grab the cricket, and sink their fangs in! anyhow he did it 5 times - the crickets were a bit smaller than normal. - I love Aussie T's!

And finally here's the pics!

And my preggie scorpion finally ate today, since she's been rather obviously pregnant she barely eats. I offer her food every couple of days anyhow though. - Yesterday i offered her mealworms which she didn't want and today she's going the munch down on 2 crickets! She was on her water dish drinking and I misted her and her cage for her and decided to drop in 2 partially stunned crickkets. She kinda kept drinking and than she kinda swivelld around and found the first cricket which she was started munching on, and than she found the second cricket and kept than in her claw for seconds!

If I successfully get the babies to a decent size (without their mother eating them), and get them eating I'l probably just give a fair few away to interested members on this site and sell the rest to the local petshop - I think scorpions usually have 50 to 100 babies.

Nah scorpions are easy to look after and maintain. She dosn't have any special lighting or heating, just kept in the snake room. However there is some sort of light you can get and put over their tanks at night that makes them glow. not exactly a pet you can handle though a few people choose to. With baby scorpions you have to choose the right moment to get them out, they're born with soft shells and the moment the skin hardens is when you have to get them out or the mother eats them. you've seen pics of her enclosure - just kept on desert sand, and they can't have a normal water dish or they can drown in it. So you fill a water dish up with cotton wool and than fill it with water and they 'suck' their water out. Every second day or so you put in either 2 crickets or a mealworm - you have to squash the mealworms head first so it dosn't dig and hide. if the scorpion hasn't eaten either by the next day you take the food out - crickets can actually do some harm to a sleeping scorpion. I also tend to mist her enclosure every couple of days as well. So yeah easy stuff.

Hey Inny, spiders are great! - Their enclosures only need to be cleaned out when mold begins to grow, though I've heard other spider keepers just remove the spot of the mold I like to clean the whole enclosure - it really only takes about 10 mins if even that.

I just found out scorpions only have about 20 babies, but same deal. If I can get them to a decent size and they're all eating well I'l give a few away to anyone on this site who is interested.
