A landlord in Christmas found a large abandoned Nile monitor lizard abandoned at a mobile home in a cage full of rats over the weekend.
The landlord called Critter Rescue in Christmas to take possession of the lizard Saturday.
Critter Rescue manager Shirly Cannan said the community is lucky the animal did not escape since its living conditions made him very aggressive.
Officials said monitor lizards have been known to eat small pets and attack children, Local 6 reported.
Cannan said the lizard will never be suitable pet but it may be good for a zoo or a facility equipped to deal with wild animals.
