When Topeka Zoo Director Mike Coker pulled a snake out of a bag on the set of Good Morning Kansas today, 49 News Anchor Gena Terlizzi was a little surprised.
But, once Coker explained that the speckled king snake was not poisonous she calmed down.
The snake is found in eastern Kansas. It will consume other snakes, but it typically eat rodents.
The speckled king snake is part of the education program at the zoo.
He said the snake would make a good pet. But, he encourages snake owners to be an informed owner and never let the snake go out into the wild, even if you don't want it anymore.
"We kind of upset the balance sometimes," Coker said. "It's not good to just turn something loose if you don't know what it is or where it's supposed to go."
