A 52-year-old man is being treated in hospital after being bitten by a snake at Mount Warning, northern New South Wales.
Emergency Management Queensland spokesman Andy Christie said the man from Tugun, on the Gold Coast, was 400m from the mountain's summit when he was bitten on the back of his left calf by a ``big dark snake'' just after noon (AEST).
The man's daughter, who was with him, called the Queensland Ambulance Service and a helicopter was dispatched.
A paramedic and crew member treated the man and took him to the Gold Coast Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
Mr Christie said it was the man's first hike up Mt Warning.
"He mentioned to the crew there were lots of snakes - and one finally got him,'' Mr Christie said.
