Does anyone know of any feeder insects that I could start breeding. I aready have crickets, cockroachs, mealworms, superworms, waxworms, and a silkworworm colony that is failing now, to many infertile eggs. It looks like I will have to order more silkworm eggs now and start from scratch.

Well, I feed them to my bearded dragon, veiled chameleon, tokay gecko, 2 fire bellied toads, and my rose hair tarantula. I am planning on getting another bearded dragon, and tokay gecko. I also sell the feeders to a few people in my area.

Lol cut down the selling, problem solved! smile.gif

Im not sure, there is likely a host of insects you could try breeding mate, maybe locust?
Why not contact the reptile sectiopn of a park or zoo near you and speak with folk there, im sure they could come up with ideas and info.

You cannot go past good old earthworms as a source of food for reptiles.
If you have an area inyour yard/garden, that is free from pesticides/fertilisers etc, try keeping one area a little damper/cooler than the rest, and harvest worms from there, or alternately create a wormfarm. smile.gif

P.s Thanks for your efforts to keep fresh threads happening, It hasnt gone unnoticed. I appreciated it. I wish the others could be as active! wink.gif

I would herproom/love.gif to try and breed locusts, but their considered a pest here in Virginia. Anyone caught with them as a feeder insect will be fined. I looked that up before because I wanted to use them as a feeder. Grasshoppers are also illegal. Do you have any illegal feeders over there. I will have to try earthworms, I didn't even think of them. I will also try to breed fruit flys again, the last time I done that, some how the top came of the container and they over run the house.

P.S. No problem Inny, anything to help out a great site. This is my favorite forum. Promote Reptile Planet! Tell Friends About us! (You Can Erase This Message)

hmm thats a bugger about not being able to breed locust and grasshoppers.. we dont have any illiegal feeder over here.. but i recon if the gov new what kind of insects get shipped from here to there we'd have a couple of banned feeders
heres a list of feeders
earthworms, tigerworms (composting worms), snails.. both water and garden... fruit fly, maggots, grasshopper, locusts, mealies.. super worms, mini worms, yabbies (frewshwater crayfish), feeder fish, silk worms, crickets and roaches, termites, ants... and i think thats about all...
