Cool thanks for the link Inny. I also have more insect colonies. It saves me money in the long run to breed my feeders myself. I have lobster roaches, crickets, mealworms, superworms, waxworms, and silkworms that I breed. Next on the list will be the goliath hornworm.

Wow that must keep you busy! Roaches, atleast the species we breed, thrive on neglect and breed themselves, but i think crix are a pain the ass. to slow to grow from pinheads, only worthwhile if you had lots of lizards or something requiring really small crix.
my larger lizards herproom/love.gif silkworms in season.
how do you find feeding meal worms? what do you feed them to?

StoneSour- 03-06-2006
Yeah the crix are a real pain. I feed the pin heads to my fire bellied toads. The roaches over here also thrive on neglect. I feed the mealworms as treats to my cham, gecko, and tarantula.

wouldnt mind sum pics of ur mealworm set up and info on husbandry on them cos i breed them 2 but there tones of beetle but no worms????? unsure.gif i got them as worms n just chucked em in bran n feed them vegies, wat vegies do u feed urs?

StoneSour- 03-07-2006
Here is a pic of my mealworm setups. I will try to get better pics if you wish. I keep mine in oats, with comercial insect feed added to it. You can also use the bran like you do. The insect feed has vitamins and calcium it. I add a few veggies to the top every few days, basically for them to get moisture into their bodies. The veggies I add are carrots and the stems of collard and mustard greens. Sounds like you are doing everything right. You should be seeing very tiny white mealworms in the bran, they are about the size of pin head crickets. It takes about a month for them to become the size to where you can feed them to your herps.
