g'day all just wondering what the best thing to do is when you see a turtle on the road... we have had LOTS of rain around here so all the turtles are gettig to places they would never have been albe to get to before with all the new little streams and gutters full of water..
so my question is... do you just put it back in the gutter full of water or do you take it to the closest creek/river/dam?? by the way i live in out of town in the country so there are creeks/river/dams ever couple of hundred metres...
the other day we came across the ELN turt on the road.. i was amazed that none of the cars behind us hit it or stoped to moved it... even a guy on a bike rode straigh past it... anyway we turned around and went back and i moved it off the road... there was a fair bit of water in the "drain" next to the road so i just put him in there.. so now i'm wondering if i shouls have taken it to the creek up the road... any thoughts?

They will find any water source Megz, Eln are notorious for going walkies. The only advice I would give is if they are heading across a road, help them across, dont take them back because they will turn around and head back accross (the way they were going) nearly every time. which means a 2nd chance of being hit. My turts, more particularly my eln will repeatedly turn from anywhere in the yard i put her, and head back in the direction she was going.
heres an intresting story from this forum (there are others)
