Tamworth Regional Council has relaunched its war against the tens of thousands of starlings seeking to return to the Peel Street precinct of the central business district (CBD).

The council says it will be trying something low-tech this summer after last season's heavy hitting with nets and high pressure hoses failed to make a dent in the starling's love of the CBD.

This time, it is putting out 100 rubber snakes.

The pink, orange green and black snakes will be nailed into the branches of the trees on Peel Street to discourage the birds roosting.

The council is also trialing special bird traps that it says have so far netted encouraging results.

It will also install flashing lights, loud noise makers, cotton webbing and fogging agents.
