Thats aspen shavings, over here in the states thats the most common and safest substrate for snakes, besides newspaper and repticarpet.

Do you find it sticks to wet rats/mice?

StoneSour- 03-08-2006
It probably would, I feed my snakes outside their enclosures, in a plastic tub.

same as me! yay i have sum1 that does same thing as me now

So how do you go about handling a snake with a full belly after the meal to put it back? I never handle mine after a feed, so I feed in the enclosure. never had a problem with them thinking im food when i get them out or clean.

Well, right now the plastic tubs are small enough for me to sit in the cages after feeding. They just climb out of the tubs and into their enclosures, then I remove the tubs.

thats a great looking set up!!

on a side note. A lot of people use to say that if you feed your snakes in the cage, they will always think food is coming in when you open the cage. so remmoving the animal was a real common practice. (I used to do it in 1995) I was thinking about it and i figured i'd rather have a feeding response in the cage. it could be said with the same mentallity that everytime you remove your snake from the cage, it will trigger a feeding response. I wouldn't want the feeding response triggered while i was handing a boa to my 8 year old biggrin.gif

I don't really think there is a wrong way to feed your animals, just a personal preference. again, great looking enclosure keep up the good work bud

Thanks Scaleman.

hi scaleman, i try to associate the tub they eat in with food because i feed them in the same tub every time and they seem to know this tub means food, they'll coil back and wait for whats coming in and strike like mad, if they did that in thier enclosure i wouldnt be happy! JMO
